The Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) is a Seattle-based non-profit research organization committed to developing products to prevent, detect and treat infectious diseases. IDRI translates basic research to develop vaccines, diagnostics and drugs for applications in global health. We focus on antigen discovery and development, adjuvant formulation and delivery, therapeutic molecule discovery and development, and biomarker discovery for diagnostics. IDRI’s leadership in the global health community extends to international alliances and partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, universities, research institutes, governments, and public health organizations.

 

A fully supported postdoctoral or senior research technician/associate scientist position is available in the Viral Immunology Group for studies to develop a novel therapeutic antibody delivery platform for viral infectious diseases. The project will focus on use of our novel RNA based delivery technology to deliver and assess therapeutic antibodies for a number of emerging diseases including Zika, Chikungunya and Mayaro viruses. The successful candidate will be responsible for development of RNA based antibody delivery candidates, and will be responsible for engineering of antibody constructs to improve expression levels, protein half-life, and bioavailability. The position and will work closely with team members to assess antibody levels following RNA delivery in vivo. Previous experience in antibody engineering, molecular biology, animal models and immunological assays is a must. Excellent organizational and communication skills are required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute research experiments that advance the development of therapeutic antibody delivery platforms capable of protecting against viral diseases.
  • Acquire and analyze data
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals
  • Presents research at group and internal/external scientific meetings
  • Participate in grant writing
  • Communicate with research management on a regular basis
  • Supervision of research assistant(s) and/or associate(s)

Requirements

  • Expertise with one or more of the following areas: antibody engineering, development and expression of recombinant antibodies, development and production of nucleic acid based vaccine candidates.

  • Familiarity with current immunological or microbiological assays such as: antibody neutralization, ELISA, mammalian tissue culture, serologic techniques for the assessment of antibody levels.

  • Experience in molecular biological methods including plasmid construction and production, in-vitro RNA generation and purification, and real-time PCR, mammalian tissue culture, and antibody expression.

  • Proficiency with appropriate usage of statistical methods for data analysis

  • Familiarity with data analysis and graphing software such as FlowJo, Prism, and/or Jump

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Ability to work with co‐workers and outside agencies professionally and tactfully

  • Possess a work ethic that includes neatness, punctuality, and accuracy

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

  • A PhD with laboratory experience in Virology, Immunology, Protein Engineering, or similar field or an BS/MS with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership and equivalent laboratory experience.

  • A strong track record of publication.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment.

  • Experience in the development of recombinant therapeutic antibodies for infectious disease indications.

  • Experience and skills in preclinical immunology assays

  • Experience in vaccine development beneficial but not required.

  • Experience and or willingness to work as part of a team is required.
