Job Details

The SVP, Vaccine Development and Viral Disease Programs will join our team of dynamic scientists leading research and development. He or she will report to the CSO, will be a member of IDRI’s Executive Leadership Team, and will be responsible for advancing IDRI’s expertise in adjuvant development and vaccine manufacturing. The successful applicant will contribute to maintaining IDRI’s position as a trusted and essential partner to enabling vaccines and immune therapies through the provision of IDRI technology to partners at a large scale.

This position will be funded by the Global Health Vaccine Center Initiative (GHVCI), a partnership between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Sanofi-Pasteur and IDRI. GHVCI was founded with the goal of speeding the development of vaccines and associated technologies to fight a wide range of global infectious diseases and ensuring that these critical vaccines are accessible globally, especially to people in need within developing countries. Each partner brings its respective expertise and technologies to the GHVCI and, collectively, the parties collaborate with a wide range of other vaccine development organizations. This distinctive collaboration leverages the potential power of the partners’ collective expertise, combining IDRI’s vaccine design, formulation and production technologies; Sanofi’s position as a leading multi-national vaccine developer, manufacturer and seller; and the Gates Foundation’s knowledge, influence and financial support regarding the discovery and development of global health interventions, including vaccines. A key component is the application of IDRI’s vaccine adjuvant technologies and formulation expertise, which have been developed over the past several years with strong financial support from the Gates Foundation. IDRI has pioneered the use of a wide range of toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists as vaccine adjuvants, unique vaccine formulations that enable effective prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines including squalene-based nanoemulsions and other lipid-based nanoparticles, and is currently advancing promising nucleic acid vaccines through the pre-clinical and clinical pipeline.

  • Oversee specific scientific activities relating to RNA vaccine platform, adjuvant / formulation manufacturing and process development

  • Pursue global collaborations and funding to support IDRI’s development of vaccines, therapies and diagnostics to address infectious disease

  • Play a critical role in recruiting and retaining junior scientific staff, establishing novel mechanisms of adjuvant and vaccine activity, and obtaining research grants and other funding that furthers IDRI’s global health mission

  • Ensure commitments to current funders are achieved and expand IDRI’s funding base
  • Obtain independent funding for new and ongoing research areas

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences or M.D., with over 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnical/biopharmaceutical industry including vaccine and diagnostic product development
