Job Description:

IIE is seeking a dynamic Associate Director, Community Engagement to create and implement sustainable community engagement initiatives which will deepen relationships with key target audiences and develop and cultivate a pipeline of supporters. The role specializes in engaging alumni, planned giving society members, and annual fund donors, to establish meaningful relationships that organically lead to deeper connection, cultivate a culture of philanthropy, and build a case for support.

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy Engagement and Communications, the Associate Director, Community Engagement is responsible for leading a suite of annual giving solicitations and fundraising strategies related to these key audiences. The role will develop and execute strategies for direct mail and email appeals, draft appeal messages in collaboration with team members, and manage giving campaigns with the goal of increasing the number of donors, retaining donors year over year, and increasing revenue. The Philanthropy team is a tight knit, collaborative, can-do team. We move fast and take the donor experience seriously.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement engagement strategies to grow IIE's base of supporters from its alumni, planned giving society members, and annual fund donors, including events such as community forums, presentations, small group meetings, panel discussions, or other initiatives.
  • Lead communication with alumni, planned giving society members, and annual fund donors including emails, newsletters, and other campaigns for the purposes of capturing data, sharing impact stories, and engaging and recognizing members.
  • Create and implement multi-year plans and measure strategies for multi-channel fundraising appeals.
  • Write and execute appeals via direct mail, email, crowdfunding, and social media.
  • Collaborate across departments including Program teams, Communications, the Office of the CEO, and external venders to design and integrate fundraising and engagement messages.
  • Assist in developing and implementing IIE's overall fundraising strategy, including setting Philanthropy Office goals and objectives.
  • Manage the alumni database in collaboration with Philanthropy Operations team.

The Institute of International Education ("IIE") has a hybrid work environment that allows team members a combination of in-office work and telework at any of the locations listed above.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated success in community engagement roles and/or managing annual funds for a non-profit organization preferred.
  • History of experience with engaging alumni or other affiliated groups that closely identify with or relate to the mission of IIE preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling messages.
  • Familiarity with planned giving marketing and vehicles is preferred.
