The Amgen Inflammation & Oncology Research Group is looking for a Director Biomarker Discovery in the areas of immuno-oncology and inflammation. The role operates in a highly matrixed environment to drive scientific and technical innovation, collaborating with other team members of the Inflammation & Oncology group, as well as with other functions including Clinical Biomarker & Diagnostics, Translational Medicine, Therapeutic Discovery, Human Genetics and Computational Biology.

Position Responsibilities
Lead a team to develop, implement and execute a biomarker discovery strategy that informs patient stratification and patient selection in support of the progression of Amgen's pipeline candidates, across several programs, from early preclinical development through early clinical development
Develop deep disease area expertise for key indications in the therapeutic area's strategy
Discovery and prioritization of disease stratification and target engagement biomarker candidates relevant to the pipeline
Generate and transition key pharmacodynamic and patient stratification/selection biomarker discovery data in support of clinical biomarker assay and companion diagnostic test development
Support translational biomarker activities for therapeutic assets including investigator meetings, ad boards and investigator sponsored studies for correlative biomarker research, working in collaboration with the Clinical Biomarker lead

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree and 4 years of scientific experience
OR
Master's degree and 7 years of scientific experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 9 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D in life sciences and 2+ years of post-doctoral experience and 5+ years of industry experience in translational research
At least 3 years of experience managing junior scientists or research associates
Ability to focus on key issues and be result oriented
A proven track record of productivity, effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment
Extensive experience in immuno-oncology and/or inflammation
Established track record of interrogating immune cell populations as they relate to tumor biology
A strong background in tumor biology and cancer genomics with practical experience in successful preclinical biomarker discovery/validation and implementing biomarker assays in a clinical trial setting
Familiarity with assay development and qualification, and genomic technologies such as, but not limited to, next generation sequencing and transcriptional profiling in clinical samples is highly desired
Demonstrated ability to establish and execute external collaborations with both academic laboratories as well as CROs
Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for diagnostic development
