Amgen is seeking a Statistical Programming Manager to join its Center for Observational Research (CfOR). Will support the CfOR through developing strategies and setting goals with organizational epidemiologists, coordinating with functional service provider-based teams of contract statistical programmers to achieve goals, staying informed of evolving department needs and industry standards, identifying innovative, impactful proposals to increase efficiency and supporting growth strategies.

The Programming Manager is responsible for leading FSP-based statistical programming teams, developing cohorts, analytic datasets and interactive visualizations to enable functions across Amgen to produce real-world evidence through:
  • Coordinating with functional leads to prioritize and manage workflow
  • Managing FSP-based statistical programming teams and collaborating with FSP partners to deliver on time and to specifications
  • Identifying potential efficiency improvements and propose solutions
  • Ensuring the analysis and presentation of biomedical data is accurate and complete
  • Writing, testing and validating software programs in Unix to produce analysis datasets and presentations for reports to regulatory agencies, publications and other communications
  • Managing project team resources and timelines, representing programming function and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Reviewing and approving key study-related documents produced by other functions
  • Writing, reviewing and approving programming plans and dataset specifications
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of programming, CfOR, and R&D
  • Writing, testing and validating department, product and protocol-level macros and utilities
  • Providing input at department meetings and participating in the development and review of CfOR policies, SOPs and other controlled documents
  • Participating in and responding to study and systems audits by Clinical Quality Assurance (CQA) and external organizations
  • Participating in professional organizations, conferences and meetings
  • Supporting and mentoring junior programmers


This can be a remote based position anywhere in the United States.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 3 years computer sciences and statistical experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years computer sciences and statistical experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years computer sciences and statistical experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years computer sciences and statistical experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science or other subject with high statistical content
  • Vendor relationship management or related experience with functional service providers
  • Experience in a regulated environment
  • Experience using the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership ( OMOP ) common data model
  • Experience with the Hadoop database platform and Impala or Hive SQL
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Five years SAS statistical programming experience
  • Database programming using SQL and/ or experience with advanced statistical methods such as survival and regression
  • Programming with R, Python or other procedural languages
  • Agile project management methodology
  • Understanding of computer operating systems, including cloud-based (AWS), Databricks and UNIX
  • Experience with real world healthcare data such as MarketScan, Optum, DRG, PharMetrics, Medicare and EMR databases
  • Proven project management, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
