The Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) is a Seattle-based non-profit research organization committed to developing products to prevent, detect and treat infectious diseases. IDRI translates basic research to develop vaccines, diagnostics and drugs for applications in global health. We focus on adjuvant formulation and preclinical immunology. IDRI’s leadership in the global health community extends to international alliances and partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, universities, research institutes, governments, and public health organizations.


IDRI is seeking a Vice President, Finance to be a critical partner in support of our innovative research programs and mission.


  • Oversee accuracy, timeliness and reporting of month-end activities, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and indirect expense allocation
  • Manage accounting policies and procedures and ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain internal control, operating policies/procedures and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of IDRI’s financial status
  • Oversee regular forecasting, budgeting and planning processes; compare actual results to financial plans with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
  • Support the COO/CFO in engaging the board around issues and trends in operating performance and trends
  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants
  • Manage organizational cash flows by working in partnership with COO/CFO, grant administrators and principle investigators; continuously collaborate with partners to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations
  • Make actionable recommendations for optimizing business performance
  • Lead, develop and mentor staff to ensure their success within the organization
  • Prepare and maintain company's financial statements and all local and federal reporting/filings
  • Coordinate all external audit activity and manages relationship with CPA firm
  • Track and analyze new rules and regulations related to financial reporting
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Requires BS in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance
  • CPA required, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and government contracting requirements
  • Must possess strong managerial experience
  • Experience in manufacturing, non-profit or biotech required
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Hands-on, self-motivated leader able to zoom in and out from detail to the big picture
  • Able to take the initiative, multi-task, work independently and as part of a team, and problem solve
  • Familiarity with accounting for government grants and contracts including indirect cost recoveries
  • Experience evaluating, selecting, implementing and managing ERP/CRM systems
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to IDRI’s scientific mission
